LIVE Stream of FA Cup Final Chelsea Vs Manchester United, 19th May 2018.
Chelsea Vs Man United Match Preview:
The 137th FA Cup final has the potential for high drama. One of the two managers on the touchline, José Mourinho (MUN) or Antonio Conte (CHE) stands to end 2017/’18 trophyless – a development which could see the unlucky man’s livelihood be put at critical risk.
This will be the third FA Cup final between the sides in history, with each club winning one final apiece. Back in 1994, United beat Chelsea 4-0 to complete a cup double, and 13 years later, Chelsea won 1-0 in extra-time to win the first-ever final at the new Wembley Stadium.
Finals aside, modern times have been marginally kinder to Chelsea, with the Blues winning three ties and drawing once against United since their last FA Cup defeat to the Red Devils, way back in March 1999. Furthermore, if the recent Premier League (PL) record between the sides is also brought into play, there is little to separate the sides. Each has won its home fixture against the other in the last two seasons.
On the back of long seasons, both sides suffered embarrassing away defeats to newly-promoted PL clubs. Those defeats aside, there is nothing to separate the sides in terms of form, with both returning a record of: W2, D2, L1, from their last five games.
Players to watch: Jesse Lingard (MUN) was the match winner back in 2016, and he faces Chelsea having also scored the winner in his last match against them.
Olivier Giroud (CHE) was a winner with Arsenal in last year’s final. His last goal against United came in a 1-1 draw in November 2016.
Stat attack: The clubs’ win rates at the ‘new’ Wembley Stadium (excluding the Community Shield) are as follows – Chelsea: W10, D0, L2, Man United: W4, D2, L2.
Chelsea have scored first in four of their last five games against United. This could be important, given that seven out of these sides’ last nine encounters have produced under 2.5 goals.
